6 Summer Décor Ideas to Add to Your Backyard Transplanting Flowers imageNow that summer is upon us, you're probably thinking about how you can liven up your home's exterior. This time of year brings soothing warm breezes, bright colours, and vibrant greenery fence-to-fence, which can give you the motivation to start breathing life into your backyard. Why not bring inside living outdoors by creating an entirely new living experience in your backyard?

Bright, Hand-Painted Pottery

With the summer months come fresh flowers, but these blooming buds don't need to be the only colour in your yard. If you're handy at painting, liven up a plain clay flower pot with some vibrant paint colours of your own. Simple patterns such as polka dots or two-toned stripes are easy enough to create and give your flowers a lively place to call home.

If painting isn't quite your thing, find some fun coloured pots at any dollar store or greenhouse and add a bit of ribbon around the belly of the pot. You could also tie a band of tulle, raffia, or mesh ribbon for a pop of texture.

Play With Patterns

Mixing patterns is a huge trend right now. Although it might seem a bit odd to add more than one pattern in a single design, mixing stripes with florals is completely acceptable. Try a pattern you may have never used before like chevron or dots. You can add these patterns anywhere in your outdoor décor, such as on patio furniture cushions, throw pillows, or even an outdoor blanket for staying late into the evening.

Even adding a patterned outdoor-friendly area rug can add substantial coziness to an outdoor space, not to mention visually defining the area. A patterned tablecloth can also add a certain level of panache to the ambience.

Your fence is quite literally a blank canvas with so much potential to add texture and colour to certain parts of your backyard. We don't necessarily mean you have to paint directly on your fence, but rather hang artistic elements with the fence boards used as a backdrop.

One example of this could be to arrange several smaller flowerpots in a grid, with various colours in both the pots and the flowers to create a bright, delightful fence display. Depending on where you hang this display, you could also make this your herb garden if you prefer. Not only will this section of your yard look beautiful, but the aroma of fresh herbs is enough to invigorate the senses.

Bring in Some Busy Bees

Another idea for a fun, decorative art piece along your fence is to hang a variety of styles of bee hotels. Not only will this add a cute display of different colours and shapes to your yard, but you'll be doing your part to support our endangered bees.

There are many different bees in our province, and each play an important role in the health of our food supply, vegetation, and balance in our ecosystem. One of those types of bees are the solitary bees that aren't part of a normal honeybee colony, and they need a different type of home in which to live.

This is where bee hotels come in. They're crafted to replicate the various small holes found in logs and trees in nature, places these bees normally call home. They can be purchased at most greenhouses, but you can also make your own bee hotel

A shed doesn't need to be an ugly eyesore in your yard. Why not design it to look more like a small cottage with scalloped trim, a beautiful siding colour, and a bright, welcoming door? Flower boxes on the windows add an extra element of coziness as well. When your shed looks this well planned, it becomes a decorative part of your overall backyard design.

Carve a charming walking path to the door for an added level of homeyness. This can be a simple set of rough walking stones leading up to the shed or even a simple gravel path to feel more like you're in the woods.

Garden Fence

Do you have a garden or section in your yard you'd like to visually separate from the rest? Perhaps a colourful, small fence with decorative posts could be a attractive solution. Paint the fenceposts a different colour from the boards to add an extra punch of fun. Choose colours that enhance the look of the vegetation it contains.

There are so many unique things you can add to your backyard décor to breathe life into the season. Don't forget, in order to enjoy your backyard this summer to the fullest, be sure to purchase citrus candles to ward off the mosquitos!

All the work you put into your yard this season is all the more worthwhile if you can enjoy it for long periods of time. You may even want to consider some outdoor entertaining features that, paired with your revived décor, will create the perfect recipe for hosting the ultimate backyard barbecue! So, grab a glass of cold iced tea, kick your feet up, and enjoy your summer in your beautiful backyard.
