Upcoming Calgary Events in December 2016

The weather has been so spectacular this last couple of months that it’s hard to believe December is just around the corner! Nonetheless, there are plenty of fun things to do in Calgary this December, and we’ve rounded up a list of ideas on how to wrap up 2016 in style.

ZOOLIGHTS, November 25, 2016 – January 8, 2017 (excluding December 25) 6-9pm

Calgary Zoo

Admission Prices: $12 for children 15 and under, $15 for adults 

Visit Zoolights this winter for a twinkling evening out. Over 200 light displays for your perusal, as well as hot chocolate and several activity zones (new additions in 2016!) for the whole family. Enjoy your own local winter wonderland at the Calgary Zoo.

Slipper: A Distinctly Calgarian Cinderella Story, November 22 – December 31, 2016

Martha Cohen Theatre

Ticket prices range from $25 to $50

A unique spin on the Cinderella story, this fun, family pantomime travels time to land in modern Calgary where Edward meets Cinderella. Together, they go on present-day adventures to the Stampede and beyond. Filled with music, humour, fun, and villains,  A Distinctly Calgarian Cinderella Story will be sure to entertain and amuse in a distinctively Calgarian way. 

Handel’s Messiah, December 9 – 10, 2016

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra brings you faith and hope with the classic composition, Handel’s Messiah. Conducted by acclaimed British maestro Nicholas McGegan, an outstanding cast of guests soloists and the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus celebrate this breathtaking masterpiece. 

Adults Only Night: Spark on Ice, December 15, 2016

TELUS Spark offers Adult Only Nights every third Thursday of the month, creating a fun, unique atmosphere in which to learn more about science while sipping cocktails. Spark on Ice is all about appreciating ice, including why it is so important not to let the polar ice caps melt away.

Once Upon a Christmas at Heritage Park, November 19 – December 18, 2016 (weekends)

Enjoy the magic of Once Upon A Christmas this December in Heritage Park with all sorts of hands-on activities and entertainment. In addition to Saint Nick making an appearance (of course), there will be wagon rides, gingerbread cookie decorating, snow painting, a petting zoo, a live Christmas play in the Canmore Opera House, crafts, a “kids only” store, and so much more! Step into the past for this enchanting experience.

Cook With Your Kids, Parent and Child Culinary Programs

Classes range from $50 per class to $250 for a six-week program 

It is important for kids to learn how to cook, and what better way to spend a Saturday morning than a parent/child cooking class? These beginner classes will teach kids the basics of cooking and nutrition.

Go Sledding or Skating, Anytime

Free!

Weather permitting, sledding is a great way to burn off energy while enjoying the sunshine and snow. Grab your favourite toboggan or sled and head off to Stanley Park, Signal Hill, or Confederation Park. Or, if you prefer, don your ice skates and head over to 17th Avenue (Tomkins Park) to work up an appetite before finding a local restaurant to enjoy a bite to eat.

Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular, December 2 – 3, 2016
