You've been searching for fresh ideas for so long you have memorized everything else you've seen. It's time to find some design ideas that are going to truly stop you in your tracks and say, "Why didn't I think of that?"

Copper in the Kitchen

If you're bored of the all-white kitchen or endless oak, you've pretty much established you're now looking for something entirely different. Have you considered incorporating copper into your kitchen design? A copper range hood makes a huge impact on the design of your kitchen. Not only is it uncommon, but it's a stunning focal point in the space.

To enhance this application of metallic elements to your kitchen, consider using copper light fixtures as well. This effect plays magnificently with natural wood or white cabinets.

Decorative Trim Wall Makes a Great Room

Your great room can sometimes look like a simple, empty box with nothing spectacular to look at. Spice it up with some detail work — how detailed you go is entirely up to you.

A decorative trim wall is floor-to-ceiling if you like, and acts as a feature wall within the space. Do something simple with a grid wood trim pattern and paint the entire wall a solid colour, or take it a bit further and apply a wainscoting effect, full-height or chair height if you prefer. Either way, this design feature will elevate the room to one of interest and style.

This might seem a bit radical, but a newer design trend is to paint a feature wall with watercolours. Like a true canvas, your wall is a blank slate on which to express your innermost artist.

Apply a simple effect like a single colour, using water to change the depth of paint applied on the wall. Or, if you're looking for a more bold look, use multiple colours to create a whimsical, vibrant design on your wall. A watercoloured wall will add a splash of interest, and you can design a room around this statement piece.

Coffered Ceilings in the Nook

In a lot of home designs, the eating nook is simply an extension of the kitchen space. A versatile, in-between eating area, the nook is anything but an afterthought. You can give elevate the look of the space with high-end custom ceiling design options.

Our suggestion is to add coffered ceilings to your nook to visually define the space without closing it off. Not only will you create a sophisticated design element, but your nook will feel more cozy and comfortable, while retaining its elegance and style.

Speaking of Paintings...

Here's something entirely different for your master bedroom, or even one of the kids' rooms. Instead of a traditional headboard for your bed, why not buy a massive painting and use it as your bed's backdrop instead?

Not only is this a great way to display artworkhanging oversized art instead of a headboard is ideal for those who enjoy changing things up often. If you get bored with one painting, swap it for another and create an entirely new look for your space.

Your interior doors can carry as much class and style as your exterior doors, and create a beautiful effect throughout your home. And that means you don't have to stick with the typical and plain rectangular doors; there are plenty of different styles of interior doors. Doors with rounded tops, for example, add elegance and are complementary of a more traditional home design.

Of course, barn doors have their place as well in interior design, adding a significant design feature to a home crafted around the farmhouse or industrial look. But this isn't the only style of barn door available today — more and more modern designs are appearing such as glass, wood with glass inserts, and even solid doors with veneer or gloss finishes.

Stunning Stone Wall

Stone walls exude both luxury and a certain comfort. If you have a fireplace, a striking idea is to go further than just wrapping it in stone – cover the entire wall, floor to ceiling!

If you're looking for something to boost your bathroom, consider adding in a stone wall as a focal point behind a freestanding tub or your vanities. Depending on the colour tones you choose, stone can surprisingly warm up the feel of a space, providing extra comfort and relaxation in your own personal sanctuary.

Complete this look by adding a barrel vault over your tub for an even more cozy ambience.
