One of the main reasons to build a custom home is the ability to truly make it your own - and your ensuite should be no different. From the perfect size and shape to the ideal colours and features, your ensuite is one of those spaces that needs to be just right. We have some ideas we’d like to share on how you can customize this relaxing space in your home.
Fireplaces
Imagine a quiet evening in your bath with a tranquil fire going nearby. On those cold, winter nights nothing is more comforting than the flicker of a fire and the warmth it provides. Since it warms the entire space, getting out of a hot bath will no longer give you goosebumps. Further, two-sided fireplaces are available to add class to the space between ensuite and master bedroom, serving a dual purpose.
Ambient Lighting
To add to the warmth of the space and to create a soothing atmosphere, consider installing ambient lighting in your ensuite. Dimmer lights are ideal for selecting the ideal light for the situation. A charming chandelier adds elegance to the design. If you have tray ceilings, consider adding soft lighting to highlight the design and also create a peaceful atmosphere.
Built-In Storage
You may notice a trend in today’s standard homes; linen closets and similar storage spaces are seemingly overlooked. By including custom cabinetry in your ensuite layout, you’ll have a tasteful place to store towels and other items. Built-in cabinetry can also be part of the overall design of the room, providing a place to display décor and add sophistication.
Built-In Sound System
Do you like to listen to music while you get ready? Consider adding a built-in sound system to play your own selection of music, or perhaps the radio. A peaceful soak in the tub is wonderfully accompanied by soft, classic music played through selectively placed speakers within the room. Or if you prefer, play invigorating music in the morning to propel your energy level for the day.
Spacious Walk-in Shower
Walk-in showers can be designed in a plethora of ways. Depending on the shape of your space, a walk-in shower can be designed as a wet-room, eliminating the need for shower curtain or glass door to maintain. This minimizes the need for a raised section on the floor (potential tripping hazard) and brings a heightened style to the space.
Seating can also be built into the shower, providing an extra level of comfort and safety. This can also double as additional storage for toiletries, should you need an extra surface for other items.
Towel Warmer
Imagine getting out of the shower or bath and having a warm towel ready to wrap yourself in. Consider a built-in towel warmer for that added luxury in your ensuite. You’ll never want to be without one again.
Heated Mirrors
The frustrating part of coming out of the shower is fog on your mirrors. If you wipe them down, you’ll end up with ugly streaks you’ll then need to clean off every time. You can stop this from happening by installing heated mirrors in your ensuite. This way, your mirrors will always be ready to use no matter how hot your shower is.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to customizing your ensuite; these are only a handful of things you can include. Make it truly your own by adding in all of the items you need and want in the space, and don’t forget to select your favourite finishes.
